Evil Dead Rise possessed the silver screen on April 21. Irish. director Lee Cronin’s first stab at the horror franchise swept through theaters at full, terrifying force. He displayed quite a few creative spins on classic Evil Dead possessions—and used over 1,717 gallons of fake blood in the process. With a cast of Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan and a very special guest performance by Bruce Campbell, this Evil Dead sequel sets itself apart from the franchise's previous entries, taking the body horror and demonic antics up a couple of steep notches. Set in Los Angeles—rather than a secluded cabin in the woods—for the first time, Evil Dead Rise introduces us to a family led by single mother, Ellie and visiting aunt, Beth. Of course, things start to get very evil and undead once Ellie’s kids get their hands on some recordings... and the Book of the Dead. Suddenly, their cozy apartment turns into a hellhole from which there is no escape.

The film exceeded box office expectations during its theatrical run, grossing over $146 million worldwide. Hopefully, that means Raimi and Campbell will stick to their promise to continue the Evil Dead story.
