Matthew McConaughey Wears a Carhartt Jacket in New Movie Interstellar

Matthew McConaughey does quite a lot of things well—win Oscars, play characters worthy of Halloween costumes, and convince hipsters to buy otherwise ridiculous mugs—but he does one thing particularly well. What he truly does best is embody an old timey Americana. I mean c'mon, the dude looks like the good guy in a Norman Rockwell painting and he runs around saving the world.

In the new movie Interstellar, McConaughey goes as far to invoke the most classically American of all work jackets: the sand colored Carhartt jacket.

If you've been living in the city too long, you should know that blue-collar workers wear these jackets across the country. To cut to the metaphorical chase here: these jackets are everything the American man aspires to be. They're tough as hell. They'll keep you extremely warm in the winter. They look good when dirty. They're good for a long day at work and also for a night at the bar after quitting time. They're unpretentious, masculine, and completely non-BS.

McConaughey wears the Duck Detroit issue of the Carhartt jacket throughout the movie and it even gets significant use by another character if you look closely in the last half of the movie.

It makes a lot of sense: it's the most stubbornly and unapologetically American jacket since the Schott Perfecto. For some reason Carhartt is selling them for just a few bucks north of $50 this week, so get yours quick. Alright, alright, alright.
