We want to come out up front here and make clear that we’re team Pete Davidson. But even so, we are forced to ask: do we, not even two full years after the release of Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island—a fictionalized movie about Pete Davidson’s life—need a fictionalized TV show about Pete Davidson’s life?
According to Pete Davidson, who is developing a fictionalized Pete Davidson comedy series called Bupkis, the answer is yes. From Deadline, Davidson will be acting in and co-writing the show with his friend and writing partner Dave Sirus, with SNL’s Lorne Michaels’s Broadway Video and Universal Television producing. (Davidson and Sirus also co-wrote The King of Staten Island, along with Apatow.) The series, which is currently being pitched to different streamers and has no other cast members attached yet, is described as “a raw, unflinching, fictionalized version of Pete Davidson’s real life” that will “include a mixture of grounded storytelling with absurd elements depicting an unfiltered view through Pete’s eyes.” Perhaps we’re picking up where The King of Staten Island left off? Will we be exploring the Ariana Grande era?
And maybe you’re wondering: doesn’t his current girlfriend have a pretty big reality show that he could be on if he wants to show everyone his real life (again)? Well, in a recent Variety interview, Kim Kardashian was asked if he’d be appearing in the upcoming Kardashian Hulu show, which lands on the streamer in April. “I have not filmed with him,” she said. “And I’m not opposed to it. It’s just not what he does.”
Pete might beg to differ.
