At the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the biggest question left unanswered was who Rey, the female protagonist played by Daisy Ridley, really is and where she came from. So when Mark Hamill decided to open his mouth during a recent appearance at the Oxford Union, an audience that seemed to have a hard time separating movies from reality cried "spoiler!"
"Daisy is incredible, so genuine, appealing, lovable, she beams, she has a wonderful charisma. I adore her," the actor said. "She's my daughter's age, and that's how I relate to her."
The audience literally gasped. "I don't mean anything by that. As actors, that's how I relate to that," Hamill added.
Is this suspicious? Hardly.
Contrary to what the audience seemed to believe, Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley aren't Luke Skywalker and Rey in real life. So when they talk about their relationship as actors—as real human beings—it doesn't mean they're being cryptic.
Hamill and Ridley will be back in Star Wars: Episode VIII, slated for a December 15, 2017 release. Maybe between now and then we can learn the difference between an actor and a character.
