It pains us to say it, but the next season of The Umbrella Academy will be the last. The dysfunctional superhero Hargreeves family have united over the seasons to solve the mystery of their father’s death and to stop an impending apocalypse, and now it’s all set to come to a head.

Fronted by Elliot Page and Tom Hopper, The Umbrella Academy has been a massive show for Netflix: 45 million households watching season one during its first month of release back in 2019. The two following seasons almost matched it in popularity in 2020 and 2022, and now fans don’t have long to find out how the story ends.

With it due out next month – fittingly, for this year’s rainy British summer – here’s everything we know about the final instalment.

As an end of series treat, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and David Cross will also pop up, in characters yet to be announced. And although The Umbrella Academy is based on Gerard Way’s comic books, all three of these new characters are original creations for the series.

Speaking with Tudum, Emmy Raver-Lampman, who plays Allison Hargreeves said: “It’s really, really packed with classic Umbrella Academy family nonsense and shenanigans that you look forward to. There’s some unbelievable new characters and villains that are super exciting.”

David Castañeda, who plays Diego Hargreeves, said Season 4 is his “favourite season,” so there’s another co-sign.

What’s going to happen in The Umbrella Academy Series 4?

Cast your mind back to the end of series three, which ended with the Hargreeves and Lila arriving at a completely new timeline in which they no longer have their powers.

Where it goes next is obviously under wraps, although the official synopsis teases: “A mysterious association known as The Keepers holds clandestine meetings believing the reality they’re living in is a lie and a great reckoning is coming. As these strange new forces conspire around them, the Umbrella Academy must come together one last time — and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all endured so much to secure — to finally set things right.”

We also know that there are going to be six episodes, and thanks to creator Steve Blackman, he revealed the name of each – with a little log line – to Tudum:

“We’ll explain Hargreeves’ motivations; we’ll figure out a way to make them superheroes again, and this apocalypse is different,” Blackman told Total Film. “They don’t know straight away what they’re up against; the fans will be pleased as a lot of questions will be answered this year.”
