Will Ferrell and Chad Smith Are Throwing a Party

On paper, other than both being famous, Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith don't have much in common: One is a famous comedian who grew up in California; the other is a rockstar drummer who grew up in Minnesota. But put them side-by-side, and you can't tell who's who. Because they so clearly share the same DNA—like, clone-same—which fans have pointed out for years, Ferrell and Smith have developed a friendship. Last year, this bond led to an epic drum-off onThe Tonight Show, which raised nearly $500,000 for charity.

The two are back at it again, with a the Red Hot Benefit Comedy + Music Show & Quinceanera, hosted by Ferrell and Smith in Los Angeles on April 29. What's going to actually happen at this event? It's not entirely clear. Why is it a quinceanera, a coming-of-age party for 15-year-old Latin-American women? That's also not entirely clear, but this is how Ferrell describes it in a press release:

"I have only one great regret in life and it's that I never actually celebrated my quinceanera," said Ferrell. "I'd like to think it was just a simple oversight by my mother, but there has been a void inside me for many years. Growing up on the mean streets of Irvine, California, I have vivid memories of all my friends celebrating their quinceanera. Well, on April 29 at the Shrine Auditorium, with Red Hot Chili Peppers and a bunch of other really talented comedians and musicians by my side, we are going to right that wrong, and everyone is invited."

Admittedly, that doesn't explain much. But if it's anything like the drum-off, it'll be worthwhile. And, like the drum-off, it's for charity: Ferrell is raising money for Cancer for College and Smith for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music.
