Considering that HBO's Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty has us all yearning for a more gleefully chaotic, less smartphoned time in hoops culture, would it be too much to ask for Semi-Pro 2? Ferrell-as-Jackie-Moon hasn't missed a beat, draining shots from the logo at the Warriors game.
We've got a plot handy, too, if anyone needs. Imagine: The story picks up in the modern-day NBA—one where the Flint Tropics actually made it into the league—where Moon has retired into an owner-only, Jerry Buss-esque role. With another failing Tropics squad, Moon has to tour around the country, evading tampering fines as he tries to recruit the NBA's latest, greatest super-team. The movie would feature cameos from current hoops players, from the Ball family to the Splash Bros, even though LaVar Ball sharing the screen with Will Ferrell would surely puncture a whole in our universe. Bring it on anyway.
